WE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE WATER FOR THE OPENER...SAT WAS GOOD, SUNDAY OK, BY WED. STILL THE ONLY WATER IN THE AREA (WICKMAN) ITS OFF!!! THIS SUNDAY MORE OF THE SAME A FEW BIRDS IN THE AREA..SPOOKY.. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OLD DAYS WHEN YOU HAD OPENING WATER AND POUNDED THEM FOR A WEEK??? JUST SAYIN!!

The old days are long gone..........

Horrible winters, dry springs and too much seasonally flooded wetlands has changed California waterfowling in recent years. What you are seeing (or not seeing) is a product of those things.

We need a healthy winter followed up by a very wet spring. Epic dry conditions last year and this year in January-February has really set the stage for a slow first half of the duck season.

One bright spot is with Term 91 and a lack of rice flooded this year should make some areas more productive later in the season. For Rice hunters on that water though it is the kiss of death.
