Mixed bag from Howard slough

Postby diverduckduster » Sun Nov 17, 2013 10:36 pm

I had ressie 14,met up with a buddy and checked in. Ressie 1,2,and7 were the only other reservations that showed up. Didn't have high expectations for the hunting but told myself to make the best of it and enjoy my buddies company. The guys before me took blinds 9,8,and 7. So my friend and I decided to go to pond 24 since we would have the ponds to ourselves. Not much was flying at first shooting time. Finally two spoonies came in and we both nocked one down. Super slow day, a few singles came in here and there. We ended up with, 2 spoonies, 1 wigeon, 1 drake mallard, 1 pintail, and a pheasant. The pheasant came out of pond 23. We jumped two roosters when the waterfowl quit flying. Hunted from sun up to sun down, all and all a great day.

Good job. I hunted GL but ran into HS's #2 while getting supplies at ampm. Wonder if he's on this site.
Trust me. 8 hours in a pond with leaky waders, to not fire a single shot... Is still better than work.

There were a few more birds in that general area this weekend.

Maybe 75,000+ geese moved into a private preserve near Richvale....

I was trying to work that grind all weekend from our pit on the other side of the rd. Ended up with 4 specks and a snow for the weekend. Been shooting more geese this year than ducks.
