Don Edwards 12/7?

Postby terenceb » Fri Dec 06, 2013 12:05 pm

Anyone going out to Don Edwards tomorrow 12/7? Weather "predictions" call for morning rains and 14-17mph winds throughout the day.

Was curious about you boat hunters that go to the Alviso ponds: would you guys elect not to go out in this weather? Is it "too rough" for a 12 footer jon boat?

It gets pretty choppy out there. I think it depends on how deep your boat is and what kind of chop you think it can handle. Better have gas motor, 50lb thrust or better electric, or some strong arms to row with. Heavy weights on you dekes too. I've got 6 oz on mine and watch them try to float away when the strong winds kick up.

Remember also. If it calls for 14-17, expect 20-25 on the water!

Yea for sure. I figured just play it by ear and see how it looks and if it gets too bad call it quits early. I usually try to hug the shoreline and drive in the shallows coming back if it's rough...takes longer but it makes me feel more secure knowing I can just ground the boat if I get in a jam.

Yea, I had a decoy float away on me last year...didn't even notice until I was picking them up and was one short
