Late Season Goose

Postby quigby979 » Mon Feb 10, 2014 4:53 pm

I have not found any geese in the corn fields here in the San Joaquin Valley. They must of headed back up to the Sacramento Valley. Hows it looking up there? I can't make a trip up so I will have to hunt through all of you and just pretend I am hunting. Its enjoyable hearing your success stories anyway. Good luck and don't forget to post your hunt.

We had some birds in one of our fields with a few birds in surrounding fields.hopefully they stick around..

We had specks using one of our ponds...if they are still around and already coming in,do you guys think it would be better going in with no decoys or decoys?

Hey Sgtstadanko, you already had a great season whacking the geese. I am just curious of how this weather has effected the birds. I will scout a little more in my area but I have not found any yet. We used to get quite a few hitting the disced up corn fields. Especially around Eastern Merced County and Western Madera County. They have to be feeding somewhere. Hopefully you will find some. My season is done but still enjoys hearing about others hunts. Be safe and good luck.

The weather didn't effect us much on the geese. Made for awful duck shooting. They seem to be loving all the dry fields. Well we happen to be sarounded by burnt rice. We had about a good month of specks till the guide shot them
Out if the fields with every other day hunts. Not being shot for 2
Weeks should help out. And the fact that probably 75% of our area already picked up thier gear and are not even hunting the late season.

Do geese use fields after the water has been drained off? I know they pulled the boards at our place after the Youth Hunt and I haven't been up there since. I'm not sure if this rain has left water in the fields or not, but I'm expecting just mud. Thoughts?

Are specks closed on that end.
All the dry fields are packed with birds right now. With this weather and the 800 decoys my buddy is brining out things might get interesting :hammer: :hammer: .

Does flagging work well on specks or snows.

20-30mph wind tomorrow.
