Any hunting grounds near Durango?

Postby Jason Waite » Sun Dec 18, 2011 9:14 pm

Just curious if there are any public places to go hunt ducks/geese near the Durango/Bayfield area. Or any private clubs. I am willing to hunt the river, marsh, ponds or dry fields. How hard is it to knock and talk to gain access to fields which i see are loaded with honkers?

I am from California and have been in a duck club for years, flooded rice... Looks like ill end up residing in Colorado here in the near future and i am afraid that its going to be slow as far as ducks go.

Thanks for any input guys!

I went to school there and my mom lives in Durango. I'll be there for christmas in a few days. Id love to wack some ducks while I was there. I have a couple of leads but nothing solid. If you find a good spot, holler at me.

i've tried the knock and ask thing, but never had any luck. i've seen some ducks on the Pastorius Reservoir which is open to hunting Mon, Wed, and Sat I believe. Make friends with someone in the Ute tribe, there's lots of ducks on the river south of Durango to the NM border.
Sorry folks, park's closed...
