I've never heard of anybody killing a sea duck this far inland. Congrats on the scoter! I've had a pretty good week. Shot my limit 3 out of 4 hunts and finished up with 22 birds on the week

Looks like they're breeding grounds are due north so I guess It wouldn't be as weird as killing an eider or something. I guess they got tired of the salt water in their eyes :lol3:

2012-2013 kill pics

Postby shootable Goose » Sat Oct 27, 2012 6:54 pm

Looks like this cold front has given everybody success this past week. Here's what I got today. As always, SHOULDA HAD MORE! Missed shots, not in blind when 6 ducks are in the decoys, crap like that.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1351385522.893478.jpg

Also there's Is a drake mallard that we shot but is not in this picture.
the geese have showed up early this year! Probably saw 5000 today. Too bad the season for them is closed. Headed back out tomorrow, good luck to everybody who is also going out tomorrow.

Sounds like we're on for Fri morning.

I had 4 shells through that gun before we went hunting last week (2 of those killed rabbits) and was not leading enough on some shots, especially followup shots getting used to the pump. I ran through a few boxes of shells and a bunch of clay pigeons on sunday, now I feel a lot more comfortable with it... hopefully that translates into even more dead ducks.

I got 3 today. I was able to take my first Ruddy duck. I only saw 3 all morning and they were flying single and I was able to take all 3.

Saw lots of ducks and geese this morning. Ducks decoyed surprisingly well, if only I could shoot. I was solo on this hunt and ended with 2 ducks. I knocked a third down but long story short he licked his wounds and flew away.

It happens more then I'd like it too :hammer: usually with geese though. This time I learned to bring my gun in the boat with me when I'm retrieving.

Nice pair of Mallard ducks! I agree it always happens to me with geese. I can shoot a duck no problem but when it comes to geese it takes me 2+ shots to bring it down. :hammer: Half the time I hit them on the first shot but they dont fall and when they do I'm chasing them around trying to finish them.

:lol3: that's when I whip out the trusty 10 guage. Geese are tough SOBs. A few years a ago I had one that was winged and it flew about 300 yards before it landed. The dog brought it back, I then proceeded to ring it's neck and I felt the vertebrate snap, just like every other time. I then set it out into the decoys. About 5 minutes later the damn think jumps up and flies away as if nothing happened to it. We were all just standing there in awe and nobody shot it

I remember I chased my 1st goose I ever shot around whole lake before my dad had to drive 30 minutes with our boat because it decided to stay out in the middle and I went out there and got it. It was a big bird too it weighed 16 lbs. :lol3:

Went out today with my brother and was very disappointed with the bird numbers given the conditions. Only shot 6 between the 2 of us. If any of ya'll are into shooting mergansers, head out east. You could kill your 5 bird limit of them with a slingshot

We slayed them yesterday in the middle of a snow storm with the cold front. I ended up with my limit and my brother ended up with 3. All together we ended up with 6 Scaup(lesser and greater), 1 Redhead, 1 Ruddy duck, 1 Gadwall. We didn't see any mergansers. We saw about 100 divers(Cans,Redhead,Scaup,Ruddy ducks), 20 puddle ducks(Mallards,Shovelers,Gadwall), and some geese(Snows,Canadas)

I'm headed to get some Scaup and Red head decoys and gonna go slay some more this week!

I went out on a solo hunt on some public land and got my limit. I got 3 mallards(lost one after looking for an hour) , 2 gadwalls, and I got a beautiful drake bufflehead.

Only took a pic of the drakes...
