2013 Duck Season

Postby Slurpee l23l » Tue Sep 24, 2013 2:39 pm

I was just wondering if anyone has any info on the South Platte river. I got some private land that looks very promising but it don't open until the 24th so I'm looking around for spots to hunt until then. I was wondering if it is running high and fast like the Arkansas or no? Any info would be awesome. I'm going scouting this weekend to find a spot for opening day.

I'm going out to look at some of the SWA's this weekend. I don't know how valuable my scouting will be as this is my first season in many years; however, my dog is desperate to get on some ducks so we will see....

The South Platte is a mess right now. The only trees left are on the far shores. It was still running higher than I've ever seen it last Sunday. You're probably going to want to take a trip up there just to check it out if you are planning on hunting the river. It doesn't even look like the same area

My spot on the Platte is still under water, really hoping for it to recede enough to construct a new blind in the coming weekends that the flood waters took away my old one,I guess if it dont,I've always wanted to try hunting ducks in standing timber. :lol3:

I'm headed up in the mountains on Saturday to check out some land we got access to that has the South Platte running through it so I'm hoping its not as bad as up North but who knows. I have heard there is a lot of geese and mallards but I wasn't told if there using the river or the big water miles down the road.

It was a mess. The river is still extremely high. I looked at a bunch of SWAs and posted my observations here: http://www.duckhuntingchat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=299441
