1-14-12 Norwalk Islands

Postby Major Woods » Mon Jan 16, 2012 7:45 am

Launched into LIS with Pops and Todd a buddy of Brian for the sea duck hunt Saturday. Winds were as predicted at 10-15mph with <1 chop, headed to the East side of the island that provided the most protection.

Set out 4 lines of oldsquaw, 1 of brant and an oldsquaw spinner. Had a good flight of birds for the first hour or so then as the wind increased to 25mph the birds stopped flying. We managed only to put 6 ducks in the boat as the rocking motion of the boat thru Pops aim way off. I don't think he connected on a bird the entire time.

On the way back in we notice a buoy that needs to be moved back into the channel again. Good thing I navigate by GPS and not by visual markers in the dark, would have lost a prop for sure.

Thousands on the boat.
Hundreds on decoys.
Time away from the wife....priceless
