Late Goose BEWARE

Postby we bad x 2 » Thu Jan 19, 2012 7:37 pm

If anyone has not read the new reg's this year thing's have changed, for the late goose season, the section that is closed from Jan22 thru Feb8th is from the east bank of the Quinnipiac river(NEW HAVEN HARBOR AREA) all the way to Ny border below I95, there is no more North Zone After Jan 21st , and a reminder that in around july the state does a Questionnaire on thought's for REG's for the up comming season. so everyone knows the whole state of RI is open for geese, so is Mass ,and lower Ny ,but we in CT are closed unless you hunt east for New Haven Harbor to Ri Stae line and below I95, so the Q's is why all 3 states have liberal limits and full zones and here in ct that's all we have. spoke to the state and the said that they wanted to rest the birds in the zone's they closed .? so don't forget to voice your concern's to the state BIo this summer good luck. ( P.S. don't let the state get your money (TICKET"S) :fingerpt: read the book)

You are right, it does say that.

I'm betting that it wasn't intended but it's easier at this point to say that it is what it is rather than amend the reg at this point...

"Rest the birds"??? ***?? I thought the point of the late season is take as many of the resident population as possible. Why would the state want to "rest" areas. Gotta love this great state of Connecticut and all of its thoughtful lawmakers.

Normally I'd agree but this year not so much.. I still have several thousand geese and hundreds of ducks using a corn field and they are by no means residents. Just driving the truck down the dirt road causes them to flush at 300 yds or so. These are the birds that will soon be in the southern zone when the roost pond finally freezes.

More important to me is that geese to me are tasty flying rats and having a limit up here of just 2 per day during the normal season is a bad joke

you may be right, it leads me to think it has more to do with pressure from the non hunting community in the FFld County area

This really sucks--was actually down at the ramp today and noticed that someone was hunting--turns out it was the old man--if anyone hunts Nell's they now who i'm talking about. I was going to wait and tell him about the regs change --he's been hunting late geese in there since 86 when it started.---looks like someone tryin to gain brownie pionts with the Co's beat me too it---watched Officer JH go out and do his job---talked to him after and he said someone named XXXXXXXXX had called and complained. I would imagine this XXXXXX guy must not hunt or he would have given the old man a break. The regs changes this year are confussing to people who have been hunting a long time---why all of a sudden you can't hunt Nell's -Hope no one else gets ratted on---READ THE REGS--OR YOU WILL GET A TICKET.

ENOUGH!!!!

Please stay with the topic for which the thread started.

Thanks!

Good topic overall.....passing on a reminder to all of us......we just can't get into the personal 'shots' and all of that 'stuff'......so please, stay on topic and any personal info needs to be handled on PM's or through e-mail. We should not be using real names, references, contact info on an open forum........for everyone's benefit and respect.

Yes in 2012 the goose season West of the Quinnipiac River is closed until Feb. 9th, 2012. Why this change I don't really know. After so many years with the extened goose season running from Jan, 15th -Feb. 15th, I'm surpised that there are not more hunters out there assuming the season is open. This is why there is a Waterfowl Guide issued every year to show bag limit changes and season changes. For those of you who call someone a "rat" for calling in on someone who is hunting out of season it just does not make sense to me. If you value the sport of watwerfowl hunting and you witness a violation like this and you don't call you are NO better than the Violator. Remember that the Hunter is the ANTI HUNTERS best friend, more areas are closed because of the actions of hunters who push things to the limit.
