CT Blue law repeals???

Postby jhthomp1 » Wed Feb 29, 2012 8:36 am

I see it in the news a lot these days concerning the alcohol sales on Sundays, but is there anything happening on the Sunday hunting front? If so somebody post links to petitions etc where I can sign up. Thanks in advance.

better than nothing I suppose and a step in the right direction...but I'd like to think ANY hunting should be allowed on Sunday.

Well, in regards to waterfowling in CT, although hunting on Saturday and Sunday would be nice, it would in general, shorten our season. For example, we have been having a 60 day season for ducks. Short split in October to take advantage of the woodies and teal, then shut down for a few weeks, then it reopens in mid November, and with the North zone/South zone, duck hunting runs into late January. If we put 8 Sundays into the mix, we would lose 8 days in January, or need to have a longer split. Also, more weekend days mean more guys hunting means more birds potentially taken, so bag limits may get adjusted down to keep the annual harvest the same.

So basically, take your pick between:
hunt sat/sun for just short of 3 months and see nothing and shoot nothing.
or
hunt once a week for a little more than 4 months, and see nothing and shoot nothing.
Either way they will jack up the price, and tell you they are doing great things for the state... like lining the politicians pockets.
I would rather get out on Sunday and hunt, just to say I can. You can't shoot anything from the couch. I grew up in New Hampshire where I would hunt everyday... man was that nice.

The interesting aspect to this article is the section stating The farming communities are some of the most vocal anti-Sunday hunting advocates. Yet, there is nothing else supporting this statement. I am curious as to the validity of this statement and what evidence may provide support for it. As we all know, the east coast is not as agrarian as other parts of the country, yet Sunday hunting is only banned mostly on our coast.
