CWA dog training season.....

Postby JimG » Thu Apr 11, 2013 9:01 am

Our first training date this year is Sunday May 5th at Nod Brook.... Last year's events were a success and we are looking forward to 3 dates this year.

More info to follow as I firm things up

We need volunteers for help at the gunning stations, as always..

(try to bear with me regarding the flow of information, I'm in the middle of trying to move my worldly possessions to a new home this month, so I'm a bit pre-occupied).

Ok, I just finished a call with my co-chairs and we are taking names for the day. If you are a beginner guy/gal this is going to be geared for you, to help you get started. There will be several experienced dog people there to both demonstrate what a trained dog is capable of, plus to help out the inexperienced.

Sunday May 5th, at 9am at Nod Brook in Simsbury. Entrance is about a mile up Rt 10/202 from the intersection with Rt 44. Enter the Tower Business Park driveway and turn right down the dirt road.

Fee is $10/dog to offset the cost of permit fees and dog fees assessed by the Nod Brook Committee who maintains the property.

At minimum there will be bumpers and/or dead birds. Live birds are tentative at this time.

We need helpers/birdboys as always, so let me know when you sign up if you can help out when your dog isn't up to be run.

Email me at duxndawgs@yahoo.com to sign up, not on here.

What to bring (in addition to your dog):

A crate to keep your dog in when not being run.....very important....right? :umm:
Leash...a standard 4-6ft one
Whistle.....will teach you whistle commands if you don't know them.
Duck call, especially if you are going to help out in the field.
Hearing protection.
Water for your dog.
Lunch/snacks/drinks for you.

The grass can be wet in the morning so knee high boots are always a good idea.

Mike, are you coming? for insurance reasons it's looking unlikely for live flyers though.

Jim,
New to CT...What is the CWA? CT Waterfowlers Association? Can you send me an email, I might be interested in going and/or joining. I joined local DU, but looking for more duck activities.

Thank you in advance,
Dave

My condolences Doc, the rest of us would leave if we could. You came here voluntarily? :lol3: Connecticut Waterfowlers Association. www.ctwaterfowlers.org Local grass roots conservation organization. We have a board meeting on the 12th at Margaritas in East Hartford if you'd like to come and get involved. We always need new workers. Next dog training is July 13.
