Rooster River Clean-Up
A City of Bridgeport sponsored clean-up of the Rooster River
Sunday April 28, 2013 1 pm -4 pm

Who: Any person willing to help! We'd really appreciate residents that live along the river coming out and at least helping us clean the river adjacent to your property.

Where: We will meet at the corner of Brooklawn Avenue and Briarwood at 12:30 for a safety brief and instructions on where to put the removed debris and how to handle specific types of waste we may encounter.

Debris Collection Points:
The roundabout at the end of Dora Circle
The corner of Renwick Place and Renwick Drive
The river end of Cartright Street
The BP parking lot where the Rooster River crosses North Avenue

Thanks for asking! The clean-up went very well!! DU and TU showed up along with several students from GFA (in Westport) and we cleaned a nice length of the river. Several bikes, tires and other large stuff along with 6 boat loads of smaller debris.

Nice write-up in the CT Post the next day.

Also, Bridgeport City showed up in a BIG way. Two dump trucks, a front end loader (with a cool attachment), and a couple of supervisors. They hauled off everything and disposed of it properly. Plus, the trash didn't sit in the streets waiting to get picked up.

Since the clean-up I've been approached by The city of BPT to help design a RiverKeeper program to more properly care for the Rooster River. I'm working on it and hope to present to them early next month. They seem keen on the idea of a better river with little $$$$ invested.

Thanks!!!!
