CT 2013-2014 Proposed Regs

Postby CamoCatcher8 » Thu Jul 25, 2013 12:09 pm

Hi CT Waterfowl Hunter,

Attached you will find the proposed season structure for the 2013-14 waterfowl seasons. As in the past, we are trying to provide opportunity for the majority. In doing so, we have tried to overlap goose seasons with duck seasons as much as possible. I personally am not a fan of this, as it takes away opportunity (days of hunting), however, the majority of our waterfowl hunters want to be able to shoot anything that flies by. Thus, most duck season days are also accompanied by the opportunity to harvest Canada geese. The AFRP zone continues to be a good zone for addressing resident goose issues, please remember to report all bands, as band data enable us to carve out opportunity such as the AFRP zone.

We have also moved the opening day to a weekday. Recent survey data from over 500 hunters indicated no preference for starting on a weekday or a weekend. Thus we are going to propose to start on a weekday.

We will be closing the duck season on Jan 20. This is the traditional framework ending date, and due to continued concerns over winter survival, pair bond dissolution, and the fact that we shouldn't be hunting birds even as late as we do now, we will not take late season framework extensions.

Our regulations meeting is on August 5 at 6PM in Old Lyme. This is a change from the Friday evening meeting, and was requested by a number of hunters. We don't care when the meeting is, as long as it occurs before August 5 or 6. We have to get our regulations set and the pamphlet finished by August 7 or it won't be ready by September 1. Additionally, the USFWS doesn't set the frameworks until the late SRC meeting which occurs the last week of July or 1st day of August. Thus, our timeframe for finalizing seasons is very short. If Monday doesn't work and Friday is a pain, then we can do a Saturday.

That's why no one goes. Why make the drive only to pound your head against the wall? This meeting means nothing.
The "draft" sure doesn't act like one.
