Any First's this year!

Postby John Sojka » Sun Jan 19, 2014 12:27 pm

Well I finally got my Griff on the water and he made his first retrieves and found one we didnt know was down gotta love that!

Bought a new Boat to me a 16' scott duck boat canoe! Holds my 15 hp and 2 guys 250lbseach gear ect not problem and scoots! This boat has open floor and shell shelves both side! One of my favorites and I have had a few over the years!

Shot more geese not out of a boat than ever before!

Great year overall! looking to hunt MA late goose season a few times before it closes!

.

First time I found cremated human remains (still in the box) in the marsh. Still killed birds....later that day.

First season I didn't hunt out of my boat...only used my kayak. Still killed birds

First time getting towed by a fire department. Embarrassed, but still killed birds.

First time I hunted a 55+ mph rain storm... in a kayak. Still killed birds.

First time I had my semi-auto fail to cycle properly EVERY time! Still killed birds.

First season with only three days getting skunked. Didn't kill birds.

John,

I hunt out of this...exact color and model.

http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/p ... x?a=787681

Scuffed it up with a bit of sandpaper, several coats of primer, then two coats of bedliner, finished with a light green and black stripes. Finish camo with a WalMart camo burlap and some local vegetation. I cut out the forward seat to improve my carrying capacity. Also, I mounted some tail lights on a 14-foot 1"X12" and carry the kayak on top of it in the bed of my truck. I like it that way for two reasons; one- supports the kayak and prevents bowing when I strap it down tight for HWY speeds, two- the extra lights hopefully prevent tail-gating morons from running up on me in the early morning hours I typically am running the roads.

She's easy to paddle, I can shoot out of her in any direction, and get into most any spot...well away from everyone else. Plus, if the tide leaves me stranded, I just drag her to the nearest water and go. I especially like paddling up on rafts of geese just before shooting light, hide behind the nearest clump of whatever and have at 'em at first light. Pays off....usually.

I would have guessed that every neck banded goose would have a leg band...

of course I shot a reward banded Mallard last year that did NOT have the reward band anymore. The band report computer site kept giving me an error.... so i called, and the lady said it was suppose to have a $100 reward band on it....it had a regular band.

So I guess they do come off sometimes for one reason or another.

the reward band on my mallard had NOT been claimed....so it wasnt like somene caught the bird and took it off, or that some shifty bander kept it for himslef
