2nd split opener

Postby bubbasblazer » Mon Nov 19, 2012 3:02 pm

Headed out to what I thought was gonna be a productive area this morning, we were there but the birds were'nt. Saw maybe 20 ducks, quite a few snogs. We had 2 black ducks coming straight at us cupped and low, they were well within range but we maybe shot a touch early. They flew off and that was it at 8:30 we were picking up and on our way home. I wonder if the hurricane moved birds around and out and not cold enough to bring down replacements. How'd everyone else do today?

Two black ducks (friend's was banded) and a few saw bills. Mostly blacks and a few mallards. Didn't see many teal, gadwalls, shovelers or pintails.

I had almost an identical morning to yours Bubba.
Thought the wind and cloud cover would move more birds, but I was wrong.
turned a few blacks with the call, but they circled and wouldn't commit.
Even got 1 wayward canada to circle around twice before he flew off (didnt have a single floating can in the water)
Finally in the afternoon 2 blacks came in low and I jumped the gun and shot way too early - missed both.
Drove up to the LC impound @ 1:00 and saw the devastation at Port Mahon - road is basically gone up there.
LOTS of birds in LC. rafts of ducks and geese out in the center.
Otherwise - real nice morning in the marsh.

 not sure where you think you were but you darn sure werent looking in LC, or maybe "LOTS" of ducks and geese to you is 50. Probably one of the worst splits in history there at LC numbers wise.

Point taken, but after seeing ZERO birds basically all morning, 12 ducks would have been something to write home about:)
There were not thousands of birds loafing in the impound, but truely a few hundred birds is a decent site.
I havent seen that many ducks in one spot since the day before the first split opened.

Guess we'll all have to set our sites on the third split and hope for the Late Season to pay off.

C'mon now.......counting coots?
Grebes maybe......but surely not coots :)
They were not coots, or gulls, or willetts or moorhens or rails, or gallinules.

They were honest to goodness ducks and geese.
Maybe the birds were only there in the PM. I didnt see anyone in the blinds except for two guys picking up dekes and/or letting their dogs swim around. You gotta vacate those blinds in LC by 2:00 or 3:00 right? Thats about the time I was scanning the impound. Anyway, I enjoyed the view.

Better subject: Anybody hunt in the Rain/Sleet yesterday ????

Well Well.....Those blinds are open 'til sunset.
Guess that just means everybody limited out on all the birds I saw and went on home
