Hey guys, just getting back into waterfowl hunting in Delaware, hopefully next season. Looking for some type of group or maybe a hunt club to join, I don't have any friends that hunt waterfowl, so no one to head out with... My question is, what are the best options? Are hunt clubs good to start out in? I do have a small 14' flat bottom boat, so would it be btter to take my chances with a Woodland Beach lottery? Don't know where to start really... so any advice is greatly appreciated

well its only a matter of time until you get an offer to "come down and check out the club..

Go at it alone, youll be better off. Get in your boat now and run up and down the ditches and find the blinds, see where the birds are at even though you cant kill em. write down or remember which blinds you like and hit them up next season. sooner or later youll hook up with someone, somewhere and get in a couple hunts. What part of the state?

thanks for the info.... sounds like a plan.. I am in Clayton, DE... about 10 minutes from Woodland Beach. I will throw the boat in and cruise around locating the blinds.. would make a nice little trip out with my son...

Thanks again...

As a member of the 20 dollar hunt club, it pays to do just what Huntfish12 said, you just gotta throw caution in the wind until you can get a better idea of whats what out there. You may hunt one blind and do nothin, go back next time and you do good. Pay attention to the way the blinds face and most promising wind direction for that blind. And most importantly you gotta call at every duck you see within 2,000 yds. Highball until they are feet down in your dekes.

L.C. is lottery. [urlhttp://www.dnrec.delaware.gov/fw/Hunting/Pages/HuntingMaps.aspx][/url] Heres a link with all the maps and regs. Some of the maps don't show where to put the out like the Cedar Swamp map and Staves Landing and a few others. Most of the launches are in the general location of the check stations.

The Staves Landing ramp isn't noted on the map, but described on the back of the map with the regs:

STAVES LANDING ACCESS POLICY - The ramp at Staves Landing is an unimproved boat site intended for the limited launching
and retrieving of small boats. There is no parking at the launching site. All vehicles and trailers must be parked in the parking lot (see map).

Just clearing that up a little bit because it can be tricky if you don't know the areas well...

Yea it never made sense to me why they give the rules of the area and not tell ya how to get there. The maps could use a few revisions for sure, but generally are o.k.. I'll never forget our first trip to staves landing. We were going to the rocks, blind 3, out in the bay and come back in the other side by the day marker. Looked at the map at the ramp, didnt realize the bend was on the map and went right instead of left, needless to say there was alot of hunters on that side all asking if we were lost, they pointed us in the right direction but by that time sun was up we loaded up and went for a pit instead LOL. Went to blid 3 a little later that year, had my 6yr old nephew with us, no wind at the check station, BUT.... got out in the bay just then the spotlight died, and no idea where the entrance to the other creek was, windy as hell with an east wind, I'm guessing 3-4 ft waves smacking us broadside. Saw the daymarker headed for it whether a blind was there or not, found the blind just inside the creek. Came time to leave and the wind was worse still blowing from the east, 2 grown dudes scared as hell trying to be cool for my nephew so he wouldn't get scared. I have never been so happy to get back on land than I was that day. Needless to say get an idea of whats what before the hunt if possible.
