What type of hybrid is this?

Postby BullGooseLooney » Thu May 31, 2012 8:20 pm

Here's a duck I saw near my parents house in Orange Park, FL. It was in a neighborhood pond, and while I was in town, I saw mallards, muscovys, and mottled ducks in area. The other thing is that the female this drake was with had the same white patch around its eye.

I know that mottled ducks are related to and commonly mate with mallards, but I would expect something much more mottled-like than this picture. Until I hear to the contrary, I'm going to assume it's some type of mallard-muscovy terminator duck!!!

Any waterfowl biologists out there?

^i think bdub got it. looks like a mallard/woodie. eyepatch is woody, along with the bill is mallard in length but colored like a woodie and it begins to mutate towards the base of the bill. the way the wings sit elongated towards the tail feathers definitely looks woodie to me. either way, SMOKE IT before it interbreeds. HAPPY SHOOTING

Muscovey for sure. Brown does not seem to be a common color in muscoveys so it must be mixed with somthing, mallard seems like the most likely choice.

I vote mucovy x mallard really has that muscovy body and ungly as hell. I with ya kill it before it breeds with somthing else and you really have trainwreck.
