Ruddy's shouldn't be a problem in N. Fl. Not sure about widgeons, but I've shot one in Fl. this year.

This season we've shot ringnecks, greater scaup, lesser scaup, buffleheads, ruddies, canvasbacks, redheads, gadwall, mallards, bwt, gwt, spoonbills, wigeon, pintails, wood ducks, hoodies, canadas and even a speck

I usually pass on ruddies, but i dont condone shooting them. My gf likes to shoot them.

Other than adding another species to your list for the season, is there a reason your'e trying to target ruddies? If I put you on a guaranteed ruddy shoot, do I get a finder's fee? :grooving:

Ruddy is a limit filler. You know, you have 1 shy of a limit and your stomach is growling and a little Ruddy comes by about 6" off the deck and the devil possesses you and before you know it BOOOOOM and he is splashed, and dives and pops back up and you shoot again and he dives and pops back up and you shoot again. Only then does sanity slowly creep back into your addled brain and you say "*** did I do THAT for?". But your limit is filled and they eat okay. I'll kill a Ruddy. Sometimes.

This year for me personally (in Florida only): RInger, Bill (lesser), Redhead, Ruddy, Can,Buffie, Gadwall, BWT, Woodie.
Out of FL: add Mallard, Pintail, Wigeon, GWT. Snow goose and maybe a Ross (50-50 chance, probably the other guy got it, but we dropped 2 birds on the same side and they fell real close. One was a juvey snow and the other a Ross).

I got some video somewhere of me shooting the crap out of them.

Some times it gets slow....and I'll use them to train my dogs.

BWT, Hoodies, Commons, Buffleheads, Scaup (Greater&Lesser), Redheads, Wood Ducks, Ringnecks, one Fulvous Whistler, and Coots. Not a wide variety, but a great season nonetheless.

Wood ducks, gadwalls, just haven't cared for shooting divers for the past 2 or 3 years. Wood ducks have been consistent. 6 dz deeks just sitting ugh!

Your're nuts man! I'd go insane if I was stuck with just puddlers. What's better than wasting and extra 6 shells to put a bufflehed out of its misery
