West Central FL

Postby tmclaimerFL » Sat Apr 20, 2013 7:34 am

Made the move to Tampa yesterday from Tallahassee fellas, so if anyone is within my range I'm looking for someone to go fishing with. Boat is here and ready to go. Down to meet new people since I have absolutely no friends here other than my fiancé and future in-laws.

Where are you looking to fish at there? I know a few people in Tallahassee who might be interested in fishing with you and may know some good areas.

Wow I read that completely backwards. Must be my dyslexic side coming on. Sorry about that.

No problem. Ya I moved here permanently. Hopefully some locals will chime in. Went out yesterday but came up empty.

I am in Clearwater. I have not wet a line in over a year. I was from CT, so I know nothing about the fishing down here. I have fresh water ultra lite spinning gear & tackle, salt water spinning gear & tackle & an 8 & 5 wt fly rods with a good assortment of CT trout flies. All I need is a license & a coach.

Go to Tampa Bay. Go anywhere with undeveloped shoreline and look for creek mouths, mangrove shorelines, oyster bars, dropoffs or grass flats. Places with moving water and bait are the best.

Pitch live baits by the handfull towards mangroves at high tide and wait look for a reaction. Pitch a hooked bait if you see action. Move on if you don't. Use gold spoons for redfish near oyster bars. Silver spoons, hard baits, or soft plastic for trout and ladyfish on the grass. Fish the bridge lines at night for tarpon. Fish the bridge pilings at night with 1/2 a blue crab for monster black drum. Jig the bridge pilings with tiny jigs for pompano. Fish the skyway for tarpon. Fish the skyway dredge canal for grouper/snapper/kingfish.

Send me a PM if you try all of the above and don't catch anything!
