New to duck hunting

Postby cary00silve » Mon Sep 18, 2006 9:45 pm

Hello all, I am new to the world of duck hunting. I have hunted deer and small game a little, but have been mostly a fisherman throughout my life. I live in Gainesville and would like to get together with some locals to learn the ropes of duck hunting and what not. I have a 4wd truck and 12' john boat, but noone to hunt with. AFAIK the only places around Gainesville to hunt seem to be orange creek and lochloosa lake. If there is anyone in the area who would like to hunt this year please let me know.

:welcome: There is also Newnans Lake, just to the east edge of G-ville on HWY 20.
We do have another member in G-Ville, and Im sure he will be along shortly.

I know about Newnan's Lake. That is actually where I do most of my fishing. I just figured since it is so gator infested there would be no chance of ducks. What kind of camoflauge would be required in order to shoot the ducks from the boat. Would I need a blind on the boat?

You can build a home made blind from PVC and some camo netting fairly cheaply or buy a commercialy made blind for alot more money. If you are going to hunt out of the boat you will need a blind of some nature.

Carey made it over this morning for a shoot.
We were just off the hot spot by about 150yds but the boy done well.
We scratched out one Woodie and one Bluewing.
Of course my shooting wasnt helping much either, emptied the old over and under on a single Teal, didnt even cut a feather
