Anyone live around Melbourne?

Postby dwbiggs » Thu May 16, 2013 6:58 pm

May get a job there...coming down for interview with Harris Corp next Friday and after interview am going to look around the area. Was wondering what areas would be good to check out...just the wife and I and a mess of decoys...she likes to be closer to town and I prefer being close to the ducks. Can a duck hunter out of Melbourne have any success without driving hundreds of miles? Have read limited info so far on FL fowl hunting but sounds like mud motors are the thing to have. Any other advice?

Thanks

Hi Captn...you run a guide service down there or something? May give you a call when I get down there...learn a little bit about how its done down there before I set out on my own.

Keep checking back.

We usually have the free Duck Hunting Workshop in October @ the Palm Bay Police Training Facility.

Thanks man...I'll check back. Are there any clubs around the area...I here that UWF is a good outfit that does a lot for fowlin in FL. Definitely looking to get involved.

Can't comment on UWF but the Brevard DU chapter is very active.

Jeff is anti UWF so i will comment

It's a great group and a great org. They do alot for the duck hunters of this state, as well as a lot for the habitat and youth of our state. There are a lot of very active members in and around your area. Plenty of guys will help get you on the marsh.

As for Capt Jeff he know's his birds and going out with him a time or two is also a good idea. He is one of the better and more respected guides in the state.

your always welcome to come up here to jax too if you want. let me know

Appreciate it...I've read nothing but good about the UWF. I appreciate fellas helping me out...just trying to get as much figured out as I can so I won't be getting out there making an arse out of myself or stepping on peoples toes.

BTW, spent a few years in Jacksonville in the Navy in the 80's...had a blast down there  Appreciate the invite...may just take you up on it.

I appreciate it Stealfeathers...yes, I do have a canoe and was wondering if I could access decent hunting areas with it. I do have a trolling motor don't know how that would work. Looking forward to trying Teal...must be challenging to hit those little birds. When is opening early Teal?

It will be on a saturday around sept. 20th . Give or take a few days. Ill shoot you a p.m on some places to scout. Also since your in a canoe i can tell you a few places to dump the canoe in to avoid a long paddle from the boat ramps.
