Last Night of Gator hunting, Halloween night!
Had one tag left to fill and lit up a easy 6 footer. Threw out a peice of good ole rotten beef lung and backed the boat off about 200'. Tied off to the boat of course.
Waited and waited and waited never to see the target gator.
Waited some more, what seemed like an eternity and finally the indicator buoy took off like a submarine, gator on! Fearing pulling the bait out of the gator we let it pull us around for 45 minutes, now remember were still thinking this gator is 6' or so, finally eased it up to top near the boat ready to put the harpoon in and I saw the head! Adrenaline started pumping, I knew this gator was at the least 10'.
When the gator realized he was at the boat all hell broke loose, my agent managed to get a harpoon in him and the tug of war match was on, another 90 minutes of this gator pulling us up and down the Ocklawaha and we got a chance to hit him with the bangstick. Waited a good thirty minutes to make good and sure it was dead.
There was absolutely no way we could roll it over in the boat so we tied it off and made slow trip back to the dock. Then we realized truly what we had all 12' 6" of it
This guy is a monster, and I've nicknamed him stumpy, as you can see why in the picture. I'll post up tommorow after visiting the processor with a weight, I guess 500lbs or more. Will get some better pics then too.
