New to Florida,
I am looking for a buddy to do some duck hunting with if anyone can help me out I am close to Inverness.
Are all hunters in Florida required to have hunter saftey?
In Wisconsin If you were born before 1975 you were not required to have it.
AHH there's nothing like the smell of gun powder in the morning!

Welcome,
In Florida if born before June 1 1975 you are not required to have taken a Hunter Safety course to purchase a hunting license.
On another note if you wish to hunt Merrit Island National Wildlife Refuge in Titusville, as Jay mentioned on your post in the Honey Hole, all hunters are required to have successfully taken the course.

MINWR is going to be close to you and there is areas that are outside of the refuge that you can hunt without the Hunter Safety card. Do your homework and scout hard, but heres a good start

http://myfwc.com/duck/Duck_Hunting/duck-hunting.htm

and here is information on Merritt Island NWR

http://www.fws.gov/merrittisland/waterf ... index.html

untill January 1 you will need a quota permit to hunt areas 1 and 4.

Also check out the St Johns River marsh system around Melbourne.

I'm in Putnam County on the north side of Lake George, if you think you might get up this way your welcome in my blind for a hunt or two.
I have a permit at Merrit Island for opening weekend, still unsure where I'm going to be for the opener, things look pretty good around here.

OK it just hit me where Inverness actually is, was over there a few weeks ago. Near Crystal River. Still Merrit Island would be a decent choice.

kg4yus,

I appreciate the offer, I've herd the duck hunting can be pretty good here in Florida.
How far is Lake George from Inverness, are you north or south from here?
Traveling is not a problem for me I do it all the time recently I've been to New port Richey, Sanford, Tampa, Orlando, St Petersburg, Gainseville, High Springs, and Talahassee.
When is your best duck hunting, early in the season or later in the season?
I see your a member of DU I was a member in Wisconsin.
There is a DU banquet in Inverness on the 16th @ the Citrus county auditorium that I will be attending provided my employer doesn't have me out of state.
I would like to discuss further with you the opportunity to hunt with you I am always back in the state on the weekends, so any weekend is a good weekend.
again thanks for the offer.

Lake George is going to be around 1.5-2hrs north-northeast of Inverness.

The hunting varies from season to season it can be hot on opening day or hot the last weekend...

Your job sounds like mine, Im allover the state during the week, could be in Jax one mroning and in Tampa that afternoon.
But let me backpeddle a moment here, my blind is open as long as your username here on the boards does not ring true :toofunny: SkybusterFl thats classic
