Blind build 2013

Postby whaknstak » Thu Sep 12, 2013 1:20 am

Ok guys. I can't sleep and have been working on a new blind on a new hull. Its coming along well. I wanted something low profile to get away from the boxy, big square pop up blinds. I'm running an original wigeon with a copperhead SD.

I recycled most everything from my old pop up. The green mesh is plastic vine fence from home depot

I used a rivet gun to attach small 1/4" wire clips to fasten the mesh to.

I then used zipties to fasten the mesh to the hull

Found a pair of scissors and began hacking my old fast grass to fit. I cut two sets of doors as we will be ksitting in the bottom of the boat.

that looks good! I would make sure its not hanging to much into the water. It will get heavy when wet.

Useless. You should look into getting a Feathercraft.

Been there done that. They quit making those in 1968.

Looks good. Just be careful running through thick stuff with those grass mats exposed like they are...those things have a knack for finding snags and getting torn up while running.

I can second both the heavy when wet and the snag comment. That being said, there's nothing like a layout. Just be sure to practice you exit ie. opening doors and mounting your gun.
Also BE SURE to have the zip ties facing AWAY from you on your doors!!! I didn't do that my first time and cold, wet hands on sharp zip ties doesn't feel too good

Those wigeons are sweet one man rigs, I had one with a longtail and loved it. Unfortunately, I like to fish and a lot of other crap that required a bigger boat. Can't wait to see some dead ducks on it.

Mitchell,

How did your blind setup work out during teal?

Here's an old picture of my Widgeon with a scissor blind and camo:

I've redone it this year with FastGrass. I don't have a great picture of that, but here's one with the blind folded downthat might give you an idea:
