Gator Hunting with Beef Lung

Postby cary00silve » Tue Aug 14, 2007 9:48 am

I am going to be hunting gators this year for the first time, and plan on using beef lung since I don't have a mud motor to chase them. The guy I'm hunting with has only chased them, so neither of us have any experience with beef lung. I have a source for fresh lung, and already picked up my first pair. How do you use this with the wooden dowel to catch gators? How do you attach the lung to the dowel and how much line do you let out? I have no idea how to hunt with lung, so if someone would be so kind as to explain the process, I would be very grateful! Thanks...

With a pair of lung you can get 4 baits easy.
Just half hitch your bait peg and line around the center of the chunk.

Good luck and BE CAREFUL

Thanks for the help Winston! If you need any lung, I know where it can be had for $10 per steer. About how far do you usually run once you throw it out by the gator? Also, do you just tie the line off to the boat or is that illegal?

 None of the slaughter houses here can sell the byproduct (beeflung) FDA and Fl Department of Health prohibit it.

Run off a 50' or so of rope from the bait. Attach a float. Then tie off a good stout rod a with sufficient lb test line and runn on off further from the bait 300 yds or so should do it. Keep the pole in your hand.
