So I just returned from the Sunshine State and had a great time.
We landed in Tampa on Saturday and drove down to Englewood to Manisota Key. It was a nice drive but I wish I knew about that Skyway Bridge.....that was a scary one.
Manisota Key was really nice, we got a cottage on the Gulf and my 4 and 6 year old had a great time looking for sharks teeth and shells.
The food was great and lots of good cold beer.
My parents live a short drive away in North Port. Nice too but not for me. We drove to Siesta Key in Sarisota after that. People there seem real impressed with Siesta Key but coming from Englewood, it was real built up and kind of stuffy. Back to Tampa airport Sheritan for the night, a good steak house and flew back to NY Tuesday.
One thing I noticed was that each morning at the Circle K, there was hardly anyone near the coffee pots, but a long line of guys waiting for their turn at the soda fountain. 50/50 Dr. Pepper/Mt. Dew was pretty typical (sounds gross to me)....but I found that interesting....plus it seems that smoking is still very popular there....
Anyway, looking forward to a return trip. You've got a nice state.
Thanks!
Glad you had a good time slack. I've been down to the southwest coast a handful of times for vacations over the years and have liked it too. Funny you say that about the soda, idk how they do it. I couldn't drink something that sweet that early in the am.
At some point you're going to have to learn spanish to get around down there. It's a completely different Florida in northwest Florida starting about Perry, FL.
Glad to hear you had a good visit. Next time come over and hit the east coast. Hit up historical St. Augustine with Daytona Beach just down the road. Time it right with a season in swing and i'll take you out on a FL duck hunt if you are interested.
We almost crossed paths at the Tampa airport. I returned Friday. Be careful coming down this way too often or you will end up living here like I now do, well at least for four more months.

My plans pretty much got screwed up by work. I've been here for 2 months but I have spent about 1 month on travel for work. I've gone on 1 scouting trip. I'm planning on taking the gun for a walk tomorrow on public land.
I've got more travel coming up, although some of that should allow me time to duck/goose hunt up in Chicagoland where I've lived since 2002.
I had big plans, but they kind of went bust this year. I will still try to get out some, but I am looking at it as more scouting and learning than hunting.
This is a trial run for me working remotely. My wife needs to be in a better climate than Chicagoland in the winter, so I worked this out with my job to see if we can make it work. Otherwise I was looking for other employment and would have probably got a job in Atlanta. So far it is going well, except all the traveling sucks, but only a little of that was additional. I was probably overly optimistic about this first year, but I should be better prepared and hopefully have more time if this becomes a permanent situation like I hope.
