Relocating to Albany

Postby BigBend » Mon Nov 05, 2012 10:34 am

Been around the forum for a while. I grew up just south of thomasville, right outside of Tallahassee. Looks like Im going to be relocating to Albany next August. Im real into archery and bowfishing and hoping to find some areas to do those things. Not looking for locations, but is it right to assume that most duck hunting in this area is going to be limited to wood ducks in small ponds? I've never lived anywhere but north Florida, so I am looking foward to going to going someplace new. I've been on GON for a couple years, and am checking out some stuff. If anybody has any insight on this part of the state with conditions, etc. Im all ears. I plan to bring my boat, layout and all my dekes with me and spend the first year getting used to a new area/

I'm put in for a transfer...place sucks.

Aside from being a white speck, a below....below average public school system, and one of the top 5 highest crime rates in GA.......

you'll have some great quail hunts....if you want to pay 4000.00 a bird.

It is not that bad.......

If you are renting, make sure only look in northwest Albany.

If you are buying and have kids, it has to be Lee County.

(Leesburg is the 2nd best town in Georgia to raise a family..... Forbes)

It really isn't that bad here. That being said prepare to travel to shoot anything other than woodies. Lake Blackshear has gotten more ducks recently with all the natural forage they killed on Eufaula, and I frequent Seminole a alot and Blackshear (because of proximity). The deer and turkey hunting here is really good and there are several WMA's in close distance for that if you don't have private land. Lee County is definately where you want to live if you have kids, the schools are better than dougherty county unless you send them to Deerfield or Sherwood Acadmey. Get with me if you need any more help or advice. Will

I don't have kids. I will be looking to rent in NW Albany to start off. I think Im going to miss bowfishing Tallahassee crystal clear rivers the most, but I think the trade off with deer and turkeys will be worth it.Ill try to still make a few trips back, if anybody would want to tag along for a goos bowfishing shoot. i appreciate all the feedback from everybody, I look foward to meeting people up there next fall. How are deer leases up there? I've spent time hunting Fort Gaines and fishing Eufala. I hunt the FL side of seminole now, looks like I'll be putting some miles on the truck!

There is some good bloodlines up that way for large deer. Not sure what leases run though. Send me a Pm once you get moved.
