Anyone ever see a Pinwidge?

Postby goosepond » Wed Dec 28, 2011 4:25 pm

Hey, has anyone ever seen or shot a Pinwidge? Cross between a pintail and a widgeon? Well I did today, a drake widgeon that is a cross with a pintail. Has 2 pin feathers and the under belley of a pintail other wise completely looks like a drake widgeon. He's goin on the wall once I can find a good taxidermist around Idaho Falls.

Here's a pic.

I don't see a cross. I've killed widgeons with longer sprigs before. I'll have to see the rest of the bird
If they're dumb enough to be lured in by plastic you're really just doing them a favor.

Know your target before you pull the trigger.

Duck Hunting is ALL about the bag.

Yeah... What he said. See how wide his tail feathers are and not really any longer than normal. It is a nice looking wigeon though. How's the stripe on his head look?

I know a taxidermist in Burley area. I have a mallard that I am taking to him. I have seen some of his mounts for big game and birds. He does pretty good. He has done a few mounts from Africa. His name is Blair. I can get you the info if you need. He is pretty reasonable on price. I think my mallard is going to run around 200 bucks for any pose.

Blair will do a great job on that widgeon... but I would like to see some better pictures of the belly and feet... it really looks like a mature widgeon...

ok ok ill settle for a mature widgeon but ive shot a lot of em and first one with such long sprigs and solid black under tail like pinnies have. Im looking for a taxidermist around IF so I dont have to trave very far. Have a cross mallard/pin mounted from a guy in IF but wasnt really pleased with the overall mount.

I've got a couple buddies who have used Jay over in Rigby, believe he's called legacy taxidermy. They both seemed to be very pleased with him. I'm hoping to get a couple birds to him this season some time. snieff on here has used him, maybe he'll chime in.

He made a good choice on Taxidermists. My buddy Justin is one of the best in the state if not the best.

Just curious what you guys are getting as far as prices from your taxidermist? I was quoted $250 for a duck and thought it was a little high but maybe it is normal and i am behind the times.

200-215 from some very good taxidermist. Above that I think is too high. Just my 2 cents.

Yep I used Jay over at legacytaxidermy.com Hes in Rigby. He does really good bird mounts and I was pleased with the one he did for me. And price was good. $150-175. He's real easy to work with and pretty good turnaround.

Here is the right link for Legacy, its .net not .com - http://www.legacytaxidermy.net/index.html Looks like he does great work. I couldnt find his link prior to getting mine done with who I selected but I have confidence it will be just as good as what I saw from the work i saw that mine did.

Good info for otherst though. Justing Hadley in Idaho Falls is doing mine. FYI

what you have there my friend is just a fully plumed out drake widgeon. They usually get their two pins late in the year. I have one on my wall with inch and a half pins. Pretty cool to see but thats just a really nice wig. Put it on the wall and enjoy!
