Spring - and birds - are in the air.

Postby HaydenHunter » Mon Apr 24, 2006 7:48 am

It's great to see spring finally arrive in North Idaho. I have been seeing lots of birds in the neighborhood (Hayden Lake). The mallards have been engaging in courship flights the last couple of weeks...that's neat to see. I swear that geese are already sitting on nests.

Yesterday I was out on the lake with a neighbor and I saw a loon. We don't get them much around here and they don't stay long, but they are cool to see when they do visit for a bit.

yeah the geese are definately nesting and we actually saw a pair with a bunch of goslings... i thought it was a bit early, but there they were swimming with their mom... time to get the dekes out and shoot ducks with a camera i think...

We were fishing about 20 feet away from one sitting on it's nest! It was funny because Justin didn't see it at first (he was driving). It looked like a rock, but it didn't fool me!

I was up in Sandpoint this afternoon (had to watch CDA High School girls play Sandpoint in softball). Lots of geese on the road on the way up and lots hanging in pairs around the long bridge. Probably have a nest close by.

Down in twin Falls (where I live) there are paired greenheads ALLOVER!!! I was talking to a buddy who is local fish and game and he said the local population looks like its gonna be a good one this year with all the water down here. So looks like we will have a good local population this year!!!
