Healthy 2006 duck population

Postby GanderCommander1 » Thu Jul 13, 2006 4:32 pm

I just read that the overall count is up 44% with pintails a whopping 116% over last year. These numbers were from counts in Southern Alberta. I have never gotten a drake pintail. When I do, it will probably be headed to the taxidermist. Any of you guys ever gotten into any here in North Idaho?

I manage to shoot one hen pinnie per season here in the Panhandle but I have never shot a bull. (Shot a lot in California, though).

Hoss's first bird was on the opener on the PO River the season before last. I dropped a widgeon and Hoss moved out of the blind. I jumped up, thinking my young dog would need some assistance with retrieving his first bird. I will never forget. He looked back at me before entering the water, almost like he was saying "naw, I got this...". He made a perfect retrieve back to hand (although I was standing right at waters edge when he swam back).
