Everybody on our DU Blackfoot committee had a good duck hunt opening day.
Two groups, one on the river between Tilden bridge and town, and myself and another fellow did an afternoon shoot on the American Falls bottoms.
I believe my co-chairs group got 11 ducks, and 4 geese.
Myself and partner got 11 ducks, but passed on swarms of Wigeon waiting for Greenheads or Sprig.

The real highlight of the day was taking Jake, my 8 month old Chocolate out for his first hunt.

He wanted to go out the weekend before, being a youth and all, but not having mastered the English language yet, I knew it'd be up to me to explain it to the warden, should one appear.
And you know one would!

Jake's first limit oF geese this morning.
Was a bit confused about where to grab them after doves and ducks.
He'll be going on to learn about pheasants in North Dakota come Saturday morning.

You're passing on swarms of my whistling green head Wigs?.. I can't believe it.
I would love to get up to Blackfoot and hunt this year.

On the river today.
Seven birds taken, but one fell off the strap on the very long walk out.

Jake with the Beretta A400, four Mallards, and two of the three Wigeon taken.
Jake is eight and a half months old, and just got back from four days of pheasant hunting in North Dakota, and a one day (Pheasant) hunt in the Blackfoot area that saw 18 birds flushed along the river.

Nice take. Haven't seen too many divers, or geese for that matter, in our spots.

The picture may be the problem but the caption reads "Goose and Bluebill" but the duck actually looks like a BlueWING teal?

Did I miss it?

Sorry not the best picture, but yes it is a hen bluebill. I have shot divers since opening day here (not sure what part of the state your in, but those were shot north of Rexburg.) I havent shot alot of geese yet either what you see in the pictures if what I have killed so far this year. I did start seeing quite a few swans in the last week or so. I think a few birds are starting to move in with the weather from last week.

Makes sense now, couldn't tell by looking on the small phone screen. Saw about 40 swans fly over today with 2 snow geese. The snow geese looked miniature compared to the swans. We have about zero divers as of yet.

Many, Many Swans coming down the Blackfoot river Friday, a few coming down the Snake river, downstream from town on Sat morning. Saw a flock with one Snow goose traveling along with them, and it looked like a teal with it's whole wingspan less than the length of a Swan's single wing. "Running with the big dogs"
Wonder if the 60* weather they're forcasting this week will dry up the migration?

May have to go trouble the pheasants for a while.

Nope! Didn't have to get after the pheasants after all.
Birds from up north moving in by the thousands. No Arctic birds just yet tho. Maybe lower Canadian, Montana birds just now.
Good goose hunt yesterday, big flocks decoying!
Ducks were almost like mosquitoes, huge flocks decoying in constantly, but the crew wanted to wait for the geese, and geese were in the air all the time. We only shot ducks when they weren't.
