Opener results!

Postby FlyFishingFreak » Sat Oct 13, 2012 12:21 pm

I got a healthy 0. I got out to Ft Boise too late and the 3 spots I picked out were taken. So I posted up on an open pond but no takers, I packed up and left at 9:30. That place is just too small to hunt respectfully. Its almost one group per pond, unless its the big ponds. I got peppered 3 times on the way out. Maybe thats a mid-season, Wednesday only kind of place.

How did others do?

Hmm same results for me. when out and had had 4 people on each side of me. got out pretty earlier around 4 or so. didn't matter. people where everywhere and the birds were getting shot at from 200 yards away. next time i wont be on the boise river. im going a little more remote. hahah still fun to get out on opening day

We got 10 this morning. Didnt get to our spot early enough either, but then again we knew it would be 'popular'. Probably should have limited but shoulders were rusty and not shooting too great.

Did fine from our #2 spot. Quite a lot of birds in the air though we felt. Will go back out this evening but the birds will be shell shocked for a few days I imagine.

Evening hunt. 5 mallards between 2 guns. Heard less than a dozen other shots. A good start to the season.

Well that's a pretty good opener I'd say. :clapping:

I got up at 3 am and it was blowing about 30mph....that's a little gnarly for hunting out of the kayak where I wanted to go. Maybe next week.

Hows the Kayak looking? I was interested in buying one and converting it to a layout. Let me know how it works for you.

Very slow morning. Went out in the evening and finished up my limit. My hunting partner was close with 5, so we had 12 ducks on the day. Lots of mallards this year. Finished one flock of 150 mallards and pins made me wish I had a camera instead of a gun.

Had an AWESOME opener. Took both my girls, 9yo and 7yo. Weather was perfect! Hit the launch with nobody else there. had my pick of spots. due to water levels we had to switch to a diff spot then planned and hunted out of the boat with no blind. I did however bring a bunch of camo netting.

Camoed up the boat the best I could and stuck it in some reeds. Proceeded to have a great hunt. Killed a limit of ducks, mallards and woody's. Also killed two honkers.

Took my oldest daughters BB gun. When the birds came in I would say " kill em" and I would shoot one and she would get up and shoot as well, saying, " got that one daddy!". Man the ducks are in trouble when she gets old enough!! This was my youngest first true duck hunt. I think shes hooked as well.

An opener I will never forget, either will my girls!

We had the whole lake to ourselves, not another group to been seen or heard. Weird for the opener. I will take it though.

Could not find our camera at 3:30am so had to take crappy cell phone pics.

It's lookin pretty awesome. I filled in any gaps in the camo with brown, green, and black spray paint. Really looks a lot better.

They can't see anything, it's almost unfair :lol3:

I had a slow weekend in general. I hunted the Boise River Saturday and there were a fair amount of birds but nothing seemed interested in decoys. There were a lot of people in the area and not much shooting. On Sunday we tried the Snake River and a similar story, but had a ton of birds real early and when shooting time came around they all were gone. It was still a fun weekend and I am so glad to have the season back. Got 8 birds for 6 guys on Saturday and 4 birds for 4 guys on Sunday.

Today 1 Pintail, 1 Greenhead and 1 teal. Missed a few birds and let a few hens land in the dekes. Saw about half as many ducks as Saturday afternoon. Did some scouting today in a new area and going to try to get em on the small water tomorrrow for the wind advisory.

Good opener for us. We ended up with 63 birds with 9 shooters. If I recall this pic is missing 14 birds that had been taken by home by 2 other hunters and 8 birds that were taken later in the afternoon after lunch.

This was last nights hunt. Took me only 45 minutes to collect all 7 Mallards. Took longer covering up my layout blind and setting decoys then shooting birds...... Love those days

Well I have had to sit out all of October because of a nasty infection. Came on the first weekend in October and and when asked about waders and pond water my Doc said, "uh, ya, not a good idea until this is cleared up. Actually, I'm making it an order." Sucks to be prescribed no duck hunting by your doctor. Looking to a much better November.

Some of you guys are making me not feel so bad, while some of you are making me very very jealous. Got three on the opener but my expectations arent very high, I just moved here from Michigan in July.
