Lowell Water Level

Postby Duckhunter6989 » Wed Oct 31, 2012 1:22 pm

Does anyone know how high the water level is out at lake lowell? I looked online and found the exact elevation but I don't remember where that exactly puts the water level? Is it up to the tree line or out in the weeds? I usually hunt out there a couple of times a year but haven't yet and was curious if it is boat level again this year or walk in as it was a few years back?

Thanks, the water is definitely not perfect for non dog/boat hunters(me) but it was a decent day. Lot of shots going off around me so other people on the lake did well. I saw a lot of mallards and a few buffleheads but not much else

Does anyone know if they typically lower the water level as the season goes on? seems like it's up pretty high right now and not sure if it would be expected to stay high all winter or if it drops.

Thanks

This is my first year back hunting in the area since 06/07 season (Military Obligation). From what I remember the water was lower than it is now, I stayed on the river a lot more back then so I don’t have a lot of info.

From what I have heard it usually gets a little deeper because irrigation usage slows down which means more water makes it to the lake

I went out for the first time to Lowell this past week scouting the walk-in and the southern lots, was surprised to see the water as high as it is (walking in Parking Lot #4 I did see 2 deer). This is my first foray back into ducks after years in Louisiana (my new wife is Chinese and she wants ducks to cook) but one will definitely need to go the boat route or have a dog for the walk-in. In fact I'm looking for a small boat rig now to expand my options - wish I had not sold the pirogue... :fingerhead:
Do you know why Cajuns don't hunt elephants? Because the decoys won't fit in their pirogues!

The last few years lake lowel was lowered during the winter so that repairs could be made to the dam. The repairs were completed this year so they are not planning on lowering the water levels this year.
