I think everybody had a super hunt in the Hagerman area both Friday and Saturday that weekend.
Hunt of a lifetime for some.
Friday, we hunted a 20 minute drive away from Hagerman, and had absolute swarms of birds on us.
Saturday we were a little worried about hunting a different field five minutes out of Hagerman, but our local teenage guild took us to his family field, and the hunting was several times better than it had been the day before.
We had large swarms of birds in the 300-500 count, and sometimes there were so many more than that, it was hard to even guess.
As these swarms passed over the field, the guys in my group would start calling to them, and maybe they'd pull in one out of three or four of the large groups. Seemed as if they could get three to five birds to set and drop in, the whole swarm would instantly lock up and come down on us like dumping out a barrel full of leaves. I don't think we had to wait more than 10 minutes for such groups while we were there.
One of the all-time great bird hunting spectacles I've ever seen in 53 years of duck hunting, and I've seen a few!
