Happness will be, Washington in my rearview...

Hello all I wanted to introduce myself. I've been reading posts and I can assure I'm not trying to spy out hunting areas. My wife and I moved from Southern New Mexico on up to Washington, but after living here in liberal land for almost 2 years I've had enough. The wife wants to move no further than 100 miles from Boise (due to family), but that could be 360 degrees. Small towns within this radius that has low crime is what I would like to look at. Of course being near decent duck hunting (clubs, HRC's and fly fishing clubs) would be helpful. My wife is a horticulturist and live nursery specialist for Lows so that would be a factor since she would need to transfer and I in return need to be not TO far from a Veterans Outpatient clinic. Are there and small towns that might sound like what I'm looking for. Asking people who live there, I think would be one way of getting some information, while I'm looking at other resources too. Thanks.

Well, if you've been monitoring the posts then you probably already know that 100 miles from Boise might not be far enough away from that which you hope to escape.

Having said that, you can't hardly go wrong if you took a protractor and drew a 100 mile radius around boise and picked one. That's basically what we did (75 miles) and couldn't be happier.
Thanks for the insight. I'm sure it's not even close to Washington. Haven't read all the posts but I'll read a bit further back.

You said you are leaning toward southern Idaho but the Panhandle and Coeur d'Alene is not such a bad area either. Been here 14 years.
I'm sure I can negotiate a little with the with on that. She has family in the southern area is the reason. I'll have to do a lot more research though to try and get as close to all the things I like.

rivallee,
If you're thinking Twin Falls, you are within 2hrs either way of it all... except the Pan Handle.
Twin does have it's share of big city problems on a very much smaller scale.
On the other hand, it's pretty close to dead center for bird hunting. Pretty good fishing for about everything the state has to offer except Salmon and steelhead, and it's not all that far to those either.
Can't say about big game, as I gave that up years ago because of legs.
Winters are a touch milder than in the East where I live, but still get a real winter and snow to go with it.

Thank you very much for the feed back. We for sure want a small town, I can't live in a city. I am hoping to pick up big game hunting one of these days. I've always been a bird hunter, so it's something I need to learn more about. I too have some problems with the legs, back and chest from when I was overseas but I figure even if I didn't have legs I'd still find a way, of course the pain sucks I understand that. I know I may go out for a weekend or even just a day and I'm down for a week. I'll just keep reading and asking questions, not to worry I won't ask about hunting areas lol. Here, if you live on the Wesr side it's all about hunting on the East side and then if you live on the East side it's the reverse, geez. When I originally asked the question it was predicated on which part of the state was best for all around. Guess no matter where you are it's better someplace else lol

In the Boise "metro" area the new country suburbs are Star and Middleton, though Kuna also has its slice. If your wife likes a new home for a reasonable price, but out in the country, look at Kuna. But Star and Middleton have older homes with some new builds. I'd look at either.
