Leaving for Klamath Falls tomorrow. None of my usual crew is hunting the Idaho opener. At least I will be hunting...in Oregon. I can't wait!

So how did you all do???

We ended up getting a few ducks, but nothing very special. We got to our spot at 1:00. At like 5:00, a couple hunters ended up setting their spread about 50 yards from us. This COULD be ok, but there was 100's of yards of free space there.

Then, they not only started shooting ducks circling our spread, but some of them while they were right over our decoys!!!!! :pissed:

Anyways, we're going out again tomorrow, and hopefully we'll do a little bit better.

Sorry to hear you got crowded out by morons. Did you guys get the rain too?

I shot poorly but ended with 4 greeheads and 1 green wing. Tomorrow will be better now that the stinking rain has let up!

We got there at 1 AM too and slept on the bank and froze to death when it started raining... Not a ton of birds yet, but it was great to be back.

no rain for us  it was coming right to us, but then it suddenly turned east and missed us

yeah no more letting people set up close to us ever again  hardly any ducks flying anyways and them shooting the ones that were coming to us is about enough reason to slap someone...

casey,

Sorry to hear about those guys. Fifty yards is too close at any time, much less when there is no one else around. You should carry a big 1 million candlepower light in your boat and use it for flashing folks to let them know that you are close. If they do not get the message I will go over and have a talk with them. It is unsafe to be that close.

As for their shooting birds over your decoys, that is totally unacceptable. Again, I would go over and talk to them. I am not a fighting type of person but I will stand my ground.

I would not let persons so totally clueless ruin an opening hunt I had so carefully planned and waited for. You are within your right to make a stink to them.

Hayden... I think for now on we will basically "make" them leave. We're always so considerate to other people, I don't understand why it is so hard for them.

Went out again and only got 2 widgeons. I maybe should have had more, but they always fly right on that boundary line outside of our spread. (wich is like 35 yards, so they're still well within range...)

There just doesn't seem to be very many birds yet. Anyone else seeing less birds than last years opener?

we camped out near a pretty small pond there was one old guy and his grandson there already.. he said he was gonna hunt another pond. said he had no problem us camping near him. it wasnt a very big parking area. then about 9:00 p.m another group shows up. they said they were gonna hunt the pond even though we were already there. me and my bro decided to find another pond in the morning. anyways 4 groups hunted the pond we were gonna hunt and it was only big enough for 1 group. we woulda did awesome if nobody was there but us. ended up with only 3 ducks for the weekend. but it was still lots of fun spending it with my family and stuff too. it did rain all night friday night.
