shovelers in north idaho?

Postby jjohnson_714 » Sat Nov 18, 2006 9:10 pm

so my cousin and i were hunting today and have a small flock of 5 hen shovelers come into our spread. so he popped one. i would have, but i reached my "brown duck" limit of two (that way i dont accidently shoot over my limit on redheads/bluebills/ect. because they all look so close in flight). anyways they are one wierd looking duck.

Yes, there are spoonies in Idaho. I pop one or two every year. The drake is a pretty bird. First bird I ever shot.

I shot 2 several years ago. Heard how bad they taste so I took them to the local smoke house. I took a bit out of the first and gagged. Took a bite from the second bird with equal results. Threw them both in the trash. I will shoot a drake for the wall........but wont waste a shell on the hens. BTW.......go to a sewer lagoon with binocs and tell me what ya see :help:
