Northerns on the river

Postby Fsbirdhouse » Mon Nov 11, 2013 1:42 pm

Sunday saw nothing but Mallards down from Canada, moving in to the sloughs along the Snake river.
Dark orange legs, large, chunky looking birds, good fat on the breasts.
Decoyed right down. Great fun to watch.
Seventeen taken in our group. Shoulda been more.
One more good storm! Just one more.

Hunting the bottoms Thursday. Should be a few more Pintails mixed in with the Greenheads there.

Was thinking the same thing after Saturday's hunt. Took a quick limit and about half the birds had more of that "northern" look to them, and they decoyed exceptionally well like they were new to the area.

Indeed.....hunted the last 60 mins today and shot 5 nice, fat, fluffy redlegs. They even came when called.

I think you just want to keep an eye out wherever you might be here in Idaho.
