Springfield outrage

I guess you've heard what happened at Springfield over the weekend?
Fellow downed a goose and sent his Yellow Lab out to retrieve it.
Somebody in a white flatbed truck pulled up to the dog and shot it.
Tho the hunter was only 50 yards away, he did not pepper the guy's truck for later ID. The man drove off.
Perhaps peppering 'the guy' for later identification would have been my first reaction, but the unbelievability of what occured would certainly have led to that critical moment of hesitation.
The man's dog bled to death before he could get it to the vet.

Outrage is an understatement. The hell with peppering the guys truck, I would have liked to read about him putting his three rounds of duck shot straight at the dude. I truly hope he is able to find out who the f-ing d bag is. I have no idea what would prompt someone to pull such a stunt, but that person deserves ANYTHING he gets if he is identified.

Just terrible!

I've seen some land owners get so fed up with people hunting near or on their property that they slash tires, become confrontational with the hunter etc. Its a growing problem as new houses pop up in areas people have hunted for years.

Not saying that is the case here but I'm not sure what else could motivate this type of behavior. I would certainly assume someone very local to the area could be questioned and the dmv could give the cops a printout of who owns that type of vehicle. I doubt its someone out of the area.

Confronting someone like that, by peppering their rig or even approaching them could certainly put you in harms way...never a good idea though a satisfying thought. Hope whoever did this burns

I would have been charged with vehicular manslaughter. That's disgusting. Hope this sucker gets smoked. Do you have the article?

I'm with mtbaughs...the reason he or any of us can not understand why and how someone could do this despicable act is because there is no earthly reason or justification for this idiot to shoot the dog, it is simply cold-blooded murder and it is an act too horrible for any sane person to contemplate - hunter or no. This should be on the local TV news to get the word out, someone must know something. This demands justice and hopefully he will get his.

Sounds like, according to the news last night they have the shooter who supposedly turned himself in and said, according to his attorney, if you believe attorney's, that the guy thought the dog was a coyote, and he was feeding his cows when he shot the dog. I wonder if he was feeding his elk and not cows. How do you confuse a dog with a vest on and a coyote.

Anyhow news said they knew the individiual but were asked to keep it quiet untill the prosecutor filed charges and released his name. I hope the shooter has a lot of protection around his property and can defend whatever he gets. If everyone around knows when he will appear in court, everyone should show up in support of the dog and owner.

News said that it was folks from the public, his friends, and neighbors who turned gave the Sheriff enough information to go after him when the shooter decided to turn himself in.

This is great news, let's hope that justice is served. I am also willing to bet that his defense attorney is not a duck hunter due to his clients excuse and the fact that a vest should determine once and for all coyote or dog. I'm wondering if the accused forgot to mention to his attorney that the dog was wearing a vest.

I'm thinking this fella might get run out of town , as We Hunters do respect land owners property as Sportsmen but , as we
all know , there are Bad Eggs in the bunch too . I'm sure there will be justice served , But , if it was my dog it would be on
