Cajun Night Before Christmas

Postby Slidellduckhunter » Tue Dec 24, 2013 7:47 am

If I may beg indulgence from the forum and allow myself to pine and wax poetic for my SE Louisiana homeland and post a video link for the "Cajun Night Before Christmas". It is their version of the traditional classic and read as the Cajuns talk. Every year it is common for most of the New Orleans's TV stations to close their 10PM newscast on Christmas Eve with a reading of this version. I am not Cajun (my Dad's from Mississippi) but I am, what is referred to in the local vernacular colloquialism, a "coon-ass". I grew up with many Cajuns and they are a hoot to say the least and big time duck hunters (and anything else that moves). As you see the images of the bayou and the flooded swamp imagine if you will the wood ducks and mallards that usually fly through there, "...an' dat's fo' a fact!" Merry Christmas bon amis! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmjbQvcDbeM
Do you know why Cajuns don't hunt elephants? Because the decoys won't fit in their pirogues!

I'll quote my favorite author Frank Herbert: "It sounds like he's being insulting, but there's nothing you can call out for satisfaction". [Feyd-Rautha].

No insult intended...just a big Justin Wilson fan.

I used to work on the towboats pushing barges as a young man. We used to sit in the wheel house at night waiting lock turn trying to figure out what them cajuns were saying on the radio. Man I never could understand them before in my life I gar-on-tee.
