Look what the wind blew in!

Postby waveslider » Tue Apr 29, 2014 5:55 pm

We got a nice surprise on the other end of the camera the other day right here in SW Idaho.

Obviously a Mandarin Duck. We didn't see a hen and I'm not sure if he was chasing a woodie hen around or if she just happened to be there.

Does anyone know if IDFG would care to get info about this guy? I don't think they are considered an invasive specie per se. But perhaps they would want to tag him (along with the 28 other wood ducks hanging around).

Anybody know? I might give a call tomorrow.

yeah, we are hoping to get some better pics of him yet. We also found a Mallard hen and a Gadwall drake nesting so there's some weirdos on the way soon.

most of the time the madarins are in a zoo...
Give a man a duck... Feed him for a day... Teach him to fowl hunt... Feed him for a lifetime...Teach him in your spot... Learn to hunt a different spot....

Here in the Central Valley of Calif , there was a fella raising them . He banded them and released a few each year .
While hunting 120 miles south from the release point a flock of Teal come swooping down from the heavens , my son and
I raised up and knocked down 5 and one was a Mandarin Drake . Researching where this duck naturally comes from was a
surprise but , when we found out where it was raised at it kind of popped our bubble and we haven't seen sense .

You can't find a prettier bird..................hopefully to take pictures of in the wild.........Lucky Guy !

thanks for sharing
