Another foid question

Postby asmythe32 » Sat Jul 23, 2011 11:14 pm

If I am hunting with my dad and I am using his gun and ammo and not transporting a gun with me at any time can i legaly hunt? I ask because I don't think my card will come back before dove season opener. I was just wondering if I could still hunt with the proper license but no valid foid card. I know there are small kids that hunt and dont have a foid because they are not gun owners, just wondering if that applied to all or if there was an age cutoff or something? I appreciate your help!!

If you are over 18, you must possess a valid FOID if hunting. The only exceptions are gun ranges, i.e. World Shooting Complex, out of state hunter, with valid illinois hunting license and valid out of state DL.

Ok....I was mistaken....if you are under 21 and in "direct supervision" of an adult you can hunt with out a valid FOID. But, you must be FOID eligible. Basically, not a felon.

Basically, a 14 year old can go hunting by their self, but better have a FOID.

Questions may be directed to the ISP FOID Section by phone at 217-782-7980 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. CST Monday through Friday.

You may also call your IDNR region headquarters just to be on the safe side.

(15) A person who is otherwise eligible to obtain a
Firearm Owner's Identification Card under this Act and is under the direct supervision of a holder of a Firearm Owner's Identification Card who is 21 years of age or older while the person is on a firing or shooting range or is a participant in a firearms safety and training course recognized by a law enforcement agency or a national, statewide shooting sports organization; and

It doesn't matter how old you are, if you are with someone who is over 21 and has a foid you can be in possession of firearms too under their supervision. I should have known that, that's why people who don't have foids can take my pistol class.

But pm me your name and date of birth and I'll get your card for you before Sept 1

(14) Resident hunters who are properly authorized to
hunt and, while accompanied by a person who possesses a valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card, hunt in an area within a commercial club licensed under the Wildlife Code where hunting is permitted and controlled; (not a state park...or public ground)

Section 15 covers shooting ranges.

Just curious asmythe32 how old are you...that would sum the confusion up real quick. Maybe Drylock can get results....I'd just try calling up to the State Police and ask to talk with the Master Sergeant in charge of FOID and he might speed things up for you.

 DRYLOCK for GOV. This FOID crap is so embarrassing. That embarrassment comes with being the only state with no permit to carry....

Whats funny is I have never had a problem with my FOID... However, before this post, I was told by a friend that if I ever had a problem, go to the Refuge and find DRYLOCK and he will straighten it out!! I told him he was on DHC also! :grooving:

We're working on it, but it kind of took the back burner. We'll fix it after we get carry passed. I suspect that those who just renewed their foid have done so for the last time or one day we won't have a foid or license to carry it will just be a "firearms permit" or something like that and with that permit you can buy, sell, transport and carry firearms.

Yes, It was the spelling error! And good luck with the concealed carry! Luckily, I get that luxury, but would like to see others have it as well

Sorry.. I came off wrong in that post. Yes, It is a right and I also look at it as a duty being as we dont have a CC in Illinois.

And I have never heard of anyone's FOID being revoked for a DUI.... In most cases, a DUI is a Class A unless there are other factors (aggravating) involved that makes it a Felony.

I don't know the answer to your question but I can find it. I thought it was only for felonies or misdomenors evidencing violence.

We host hunts for disabled persons, my question is, if I have a disabled adult who wants to hunt but does not have a foid card, can one of our guides who has a foid card and supplies the gun take the disabled person hunting?
