lemme be nice before someone else gets to you.....there is not a chance in u know what that someone is going to say "ohh sure ill take you hunting" to better your odds, you might want to introduce yourself, tell what part of the State you are in, age, and what you may offer to a hunting party (truck, decoys, boat)so that someone can decide if you are worth their time. being new to hunting is going to make it tough but you have to make friends outside of the internet that can show you the ropes. hope this helps.

oh yeah this is going to be a blood-bath. listen to the advice from abeauchamp. Do some reading and spend some time putting miles on the truck knocking on doors. That's the only way to do it man. People arent going to give you their spots over the internet so you have to do some leg work on your own. Maybe knock on enough doors and get a spot, then invite someone who knows a bit more about the sport out to YOUR spot. That way you arent looking like a mooch and since you don't have experience/gear to bring to the table you at least have a spot to offer.

I can see no reason to delete this post. The school of hard knocks has taught many a young man a lesson that he remembers for life :hammer:

Have you tried water for ducks and fields for geese ? You say your new to hunting but would like someone to take you to a new spot ? So where is your old spot ? I'd perfer GPS cordinates and maybe the land owners name if you don't mind some company ! it'll just be me and a few friends learning how you hunt in your area. We won't skybust to much and always look for our wounded birds if the wind is blowing toward us.

Get off the computer and drive around until you find some conservation land in your area .Then open your car door and get out. After that walk around looking for water (goodluck with that). After that look for ducks DON'T forget to watch for cottonmouths while checking the spot out. Then you might have you a spot to hunt.
Now seriously try to find a friend that has been duck hunting before and ask for some pointers not spots. And just maybe he will ask if you want to go with him.

Cross winds have created a real prob foe me in the past. I mean have you ever been caught in the middle od peeing and had one of them sweep up your leg? It will scare the beejesus out of ya. Besides how do you set the decoys in a cross wind the bath tub is not wide enough. Should I bring my chain saw to build a blind or will you have one with heat? I've heard it gets cold duck hunting, my boxer doesn't like cold water we will have to stay comfy. Oh will you mind if I borrow a box of shells too I promise to pay you back by our 3-4th hunt unless you show up on a day I decide to hunt OUR new spot by my self or with a friend or two of mine. Surely its okay for me to bring a buddy so we are safe? Pass it on right. Looking foward to trying this cross wind hunting you speak of!

That's what I was thinking. Maybe big Hoss is just a youngster and needs a start.
Jumping him for asking for help is not very nice.

@big hoss...start over and introduce yourself. Tell us how old you are, where you live, and something to get to know you by.
We're not all that bad, just a little bit gunshy.

Apparently big hoss is BIG. He's looking for some size 13 neoprene waders and a 16' jon boat. Maybe he's not such a bad guy to get to know. Give him a chance guys.

I'm not doubting he could be a great guy. If you read the post on the first page of this very forum you will see atleast 3 other guys that got totally different answers than were given in this thread. Most everyone is helpful around here if you are willing to help yourself. Look how they started their threads. They are willing to put forth the efforts to get to know them and what they have to know offer wether its just company and an open mind to learn. Or the hoards of gear one can collect. Its like anything else in life you have to make yourself respectful and worth the chance. I have had many a people from here join me on hunts. All but one I would have again at the drop of a phone call. I enjoy the sport and prob more so passing it on to new hunters young and old alike. But come on, to just ask for new spots to hunt is aching for a hard time. Besides you need pretty thick skin and the ability to carry a conversation on slow days.

While I'm thankful you are choosing hunting over video games I sure you still have much to learn. Hear is my problem. Maybe your really not intending it this way. But everything you have written so far suggest that you will hunt this new spot without the person who showed it to you. I don't care public or private, if I work my ass off and find birds take you or someone else in there enjoy what God has given us and harvest a few birds. I better not come back next week to find that person in their new spot..... this is the very reason we ask someone to tell us about theirselves. I hope you enjoy this sport but you will need much, much thicker skin to last long.

THIS is for you big hoss.
http://www.duckhuntingchat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=203025
I made this a long time ago and it's been waiting for someone like you.
Everyone in the entire world can see this so good luck getting there first and holding it.
It's actually a good spot. The sun comes up behind you so you are in the shadows until the sun gets up over the ridge and trees behind the blind. The wind blows from the southwest all the time so it's good for the wind too.

Now go. Run Forrest, RUN! Park by "the Lost Pond" and walk straight up the hill, follow the treeline, turn right and then a quick left and walk down the hill to the water. That's how you get to 17. 16 is about 250 yards to your left at this point. Good luck...

Good luck with those 4 spots....I have hunted great "spots" and never pulled the trigger. I have also hunted not so good "spots" and done pretty well. Wind, time of the year, weather, calling, decoys, etc. can mean the difference in a limit and going hungry. That is why I love duck hunting....every day is a different puzzle. Have fun figuing it out! I did!

When I was 17 I had some really good rabbit hunting spots and a pair of beagles. Sold the rabbits for 50 cents apiece to buy shotgun shells to quail hunt. Lots of quail back then. Took a couple of "university professors" rabbit hunting one Sat. as they wanted some to eat. Next day I went by the place we hunted on Sat. on my way to a quail hunting spot. Danged if they weren't back there rabbit hunting again. I let the air out of all their tires and made damn sure they knew who did it and why. Told my dad about it. He said I may have gone a bit overboard but I never heard anything about it from them. That was back before cell phones so I'm sure they had a nice walk to somewhere. Closest farmer was at least 2 miles a way and I had also told him about it. It was his land so I know he wouldn't have helped them. Later he told me they never came to his house. Lesson learned at a young age I have never forgotten!!!!
