Taking a chance with someone asking for help

Postby Riverrunner342 » Wed Oct 31, 2012 2:10 pm

I responded two weeks ago to young man who was looking for a place to hunt and someone he could hunt with.
I told him we could go out and give it a shot with the ducks. On the appointed day, he showed up with all of his
equipment, did his part of the work, called ducks and geese very well, was an excellent wing shot, and just an all
around great person to spend a day in the marsh with.

I am forty years older than this guy, but the age difference did not seem to matter, and we had a great time.
He and I are going again this weekend and I am looking forward to it.

Take a chance with a new person and you might get a great suprise.

X2. I wish someone more senior would have spent time with me early on or someone with experience. I had to learn by faults and many of them. Great that you're doing it!

I had a very similar introduction to the sport, Kowalski. My Grandpa and Uncles had duck hunted years before but had quit before I was born. A buddy and I bought some cheap decoys, cheap waders and jumped into it. We made a lot of mistakes, but I think it made us respect the hunt even more when we had good days. It was a tough road to travel at times, but we had fun. Good for you riverrunner. There are a lot of people that won't take the chance.

I've hunted with a couple guy from the website. Great time. A lot of guys say they don't want to hunt with guys they don't know, I understand, but what the heck. Nothing ventured nothing gained. I think I've gained a couple buddies.

I'm introducing my Chiropractor's 13 year old daughter to duck hunting next weekend. She has watched one too many Duck Dynasty shows and is ready to paint her face up and smack some ducks!!!! I hope I don't let her down.
