REND LAKE

Postby quadejagger » Tue Nov 06, 2012 8:49 am

It has started. As of Sunday morning before the youth hunt was over there where two boats lined up on the ramps for the opener.

Maybe next year for me. My dad lives right near Rend.

Crappie should be doing well too.

I will have to look into where I could hunt and get down there for next season.

those guys are serious, no doubt. would love to join in the opening day madness. last time we tried the draw on the opener we were next to last at cottonwood. buckbrush was so thick you couldn't even get close to the stake. water was low. should have known. hell of a show tho.

I've done opening day at Casey Forks quite a few times. Only once was I skunked.
It's a heck of a good thing they have going there.

Yep, that has been going on for years. Usually the same guys. As long as they do not block the ramp or keep people off, there is nothing that can be done. There is at least one commercial fisherman that is allowed on the subs, but nobody else. Of course this guy hunts and guides as well.

The last flying survey showed something like 15000 ducks on Rend. That is doubtful. I understand the youth hunt killed some woodies but not much of anything else. At least this year there is food available. Course the coots are eating all of it. Unfortunately this year, the subs are one of the few places in Southern Illinois where there is water. You can expect a mad house circus on the Big Muddy side. The law will be there also.

To add insult to injury, the weather will be nice. Sunny, breezy with a high of 70.

I've heard about that and always wondered if it was really true about lining up a week before.

By far the busiest place I have ever seen! I would bet it rivals Arkansas flooded timber.

Yes I can't imagine that. I also can't imagine drawing in every day like they do in some places.

I talked to one of the guys that runs the draw for the Rend Subimpoundments. He said there were over 200 hunters on Monday and they averaged about 3 ducks each. Pretty good.

There are a couple swans hanging around also. Please remember not to shoot swans.

Now for my compliant:People are already leave ducks on the water. Please folks retrieve your kill. It just happens to be the law as well. Have a great hunt........

I see the new fly by survey for Rend is out. I was there when they flew. It estimates 19000 ducks. Hard to accept if you hunt the subs. Last couple days have been real slow. Seeing a few shovelers and scaup.

When did people start bragging about their kill? Why is that acceptable? I grew up believing waterfowlers were a self regulating group. Real men would never boost about killing. Is this a characteristic of the new generation?
