I will be honest here. I'm thankful that our season doesn't open till Thurs. Alot of people up state have wasted a month of season already.

I hope that the weather or just time give us a change because I can't help but feeling like this year has been a bust. I have had a great time out in the blind but hope we get a push before the end of the season. Most of the spots I hunt usually load up by this time and last year it was very similar to this year with the warm temps. The cold and time of year this weekend may push some birds down! If not may be time to work my pointer in the field for some pheasants! Good luck on the rest of the season and for the opener down south! I may hook up the boat later in the year and take a long weekend and venture south for some action.

What's awesome, is having duck season closed, goose still open, and mallards landing in your goose decoys.

Hate it. Or watching the vortex happen in the neighboring field for hours on end. Ugh.

I wish duck season didn't start until mid November or start of December. Seems like we go through this every year.

UMMMMMM No Thanks ! I campaigned hard for our late opener. I much prefer to shoot mallards while goose hunting after a freeze up. Although I'm going to get you and your boy down ere sometime.

Slowest day yet! Counted nine ducks total that were flying. Had a group of three Greenheads work another spread that we got to peel off them and we missed every single one of them. Pisssssssed...

Changed it up today and left all the spinners in the truck and just ran a Mallard Machine. Took a dozen and half decoys out of the spread and added six more sleepers. Hopefully this cold front is what we are all praying for. I readjusted my schedule and I will be out every AM until next Friday. Only 32 days left for ducks.

We did the same thing and had great luck on Thanksgiving. We did miss a lot but still did well and got a nice black duck. Even today with the wind the ducks seemed interested in our spread. There was a group on the other side of the lake from us and they got nothing and we could see the ducks flaring from their spread. They had about 60 or more deke's out and we had a dozen mallards and three goose deke's. We called a little harder today because of the wind. Tomorrow supposed to be a good forecast and lighter winds out of the north northwest. Saw big strings of geese on the way home. Hope tomorrow is good!! Good luck to everybody going out!!!

We did some work on public land this past week.
This is why I refuse to deer hunt during duck season. Three man limit of ducks and a 15 lb. goose

Proof!! A 15 lb goose:

Slow today. No movement. Yesterday saw two flocks of 50+ high flyin. Managed three Bluebill Drakes, but two dove wounded and couldn't find them. My first year shooting Hevi-Metal and really don't like. The weather did push birds around, but not many.

Guys near you said they saw a lot of ducks today. I was in my blnd and saw 1 group of 15 or so Mallards at 1st light and they were educated enough to dump into a small hidden pit.
