Early Goose season temps

Postby Sfd714 » Tue Aug 27, 2013 6:49 pm

Doesn't look like the heat is going to let up. Anyone even going the first week? Looks like temps 70s-90s. What does every one do to do to keep the dog cool while out hunting?

If your going out in this high heat.Leave the dog at home.I can fetch my own birds. Not worth the health of my dog.

Unless you have a spot they are hanging out in already it's gonna be tough. Not like they really need to go out and feed.. As far as the dog. Hunt in shade and take a cooler and a bowl for water. Not too cold of water though.

usually when we early goose hunt, we leave the dog at home. like said before, not worth risking health of our dog. we have taken the dog once before and we hunted a pond.

Nothing says waterfowl season like 95+ degree temps and a heat advisory.

First, I think it is all of our luck that we get hot days to start off hunting in a mild summer.

I'm taking the dog dove hunting first thing in the AM leaving once i get to 9:00 am or earlier

What's hot weather like this do to the geese? Last year was the first time I hunted early season, most of the time I'm more of a dove guy but I went after geese a lot last year since there were so many juvies. From what I remember last year's early season was pretty mild with opening day being really rainy.

Got permission to hunt a farm pond that hasn't ben hunted for about 15 years and there is always about 25+ geese just hanging around and the landowner hates them.

(Edit) i cant swim very well and can't come up with a small boat to get the birds.

Wait for them to drift to the side of the pond. Might not look like the water is moving, but they should eventually make it over there.

Good luck!
