Accessing Fox River Near Silver Springs

Postby boilerpte99 » Wed Sep 11, 2013 9:48 pm

I am new to duck / goose hunting so hoping to get some advice. Trying to figure out how best to access the Fox River around Silver Springs area for the season. I've tried from Silver Springs but it is a fairly long distance to wade up river to the public blinds without a boat and a dog. Any one have any insight on more direct routes? Ever time I try to find a way in it is blocked by private land or residential developments.

Any other advice on locations allowing public would be appreciated as well, I can't afford paying for access to private land at this point. I've looked at the DNR sheets for Des Plaines, but hard to tell if there are lottery for walk in blinds.

Appreciate the help and advice!

Unfortunately you're quite a ways behind schedule Boiler, but if you can find some time on the weekend to drive out to either of these places you might be able to get a plan together before the regular season begins.

The only place I know of on the Fox that you can get public access is the public ramp just south of Orchard rd. Another member on this site FeelinFowl hunts or there quite a bit so shoot him a pm as he might be able to offer a few more pointers.

DesPlaines: Has just a few blinds that I think you can walk to, but they do have drawings for the blinds each YEAR, and you are about a month late on that. However, most of the "blind owners" rarely if ever hunt their blinds over the course of the season. You should not have problems getting into one of the blinds if you go out there during the week, or any other weekend outside of opening weekend and Thanksgiving weekend.
That's about as general as I can get.
Best of luck!

If you're not dead set on hunting in Illinois you should be able to find a spot in Wisconsin. Richard Bong Natural area has blinds, try to get one on the big lake though.

Don't move to fast. Should of made a comment that there is no water anymore!!! :fingerhead: The lakes and ponds drained. The dam broke in April and it never was fixed.

We need a gully washer. All the rain did is wet the dirt a little.
Pray for rain.
