IL 2013-2014 Season Photos

Postby Blackcloud870 » Thu Oct 24, 2013 12:37 pm

I noticed there were a bunch of other states posting up threads of their 2013-2014 Season pics, and they all seem pretty awesome and give us local folks a chance to keep track of our seasons. The good, the bad and the ugly.

I know we wont all get all of our pictures uploaded but here are a few from the North Zone Opener this past weekend.
Good luck to everyone and keep posting up pics!

Opening Day: 2 guys 10 ducks 3 geese. 1bwt not pictured because it flew too close and got mushed real bad. Had one goose that dove on us and ended up somewhere under the milfoil and never came up. We looked for that damn goose for an hour and a half. Probably coulda filled our limits otherwise

*Edit - Don't know why my picture is gone, I sure as heck didn't move or delete it

And here's another one from last week:

I'm gonna do a little field hunting this weekend. Then it's watching the migration. Lets let the birds tell us when it's time.

My pup got her first 5 ducks on opening day of the Central Zone. It was very rewarding and a start to a new chapter of my waterfowl hunting.

That's awesome. I managed to splash a woody on my pups first hunt this year. She's 11 months. Of course like a lot of first timers she sniffs the bird and pushes the duck with her nose. She turns to me like what now. After we get back to the blind she gets a good sniff and feel moment. Then I throw it across the blind and like a light coming on she gets it. I take the duck and throw it out in the decoys and tell her to get the duck. With no hesitation she retrieves to hand. We do this a few more times before going home for the day. Hope she still gets it the next time she gets to retrieve. Even with my dogs first morning it's quit a feeling you get with a new pup in the blind.

Buck and Ed, thanks for contributing to the thread guys those are some sweet and memorable pics for sure.
Ed, my now 12 month old pup did the same exact thing. I worked with her using real birds all spring and summer long but when she gave me that "now what" look, it took every bit of patience I had in my being not to blow a gasket. It was frustrating, but I needed to remember that the more practice she gets the better. And when we just played fetch on the shorline she picked it up and brought it back to me. I've just got to work her out into the deeks and so-on now.

Got this dog as a pet but my hunting buddy is out of state for a while an I wanted some company in the blind so I brought her along.

Image

Low and behold she got 3 retrieves and went with me to get the first. I may have a new hunting partner now!

No way of telling. Dogs can't talk, remember? We discussed this last year. :hi:

Not a lot of killing, but a lot of nice time in the blind so far.

I did however finally get a quality wood duck to get mounted for my dad. He can't hunt any more and a few years ago he asked if I could get a wood duck for him to get mounted. Of course, after that it was hens, immature drakes, or ones shot up so bad that I wasn't going to hope they could put humpty ducky back together again.

He has a beautiful crest, but I took a lousy picture.

Awesome pictures SpinnerMan. That sunset is one to put on the wall right along side the Wood duck.

In years past, I was almost always assured the chance to kill a nice Drake Woody, however I've been on a drought for at least 3-4 years. Only shot a hen so far this year.

Got to take a group of 3 youngsters out for the youth season! They braved the rain and pounded out 10 birds, let's just say my season is made just from watching those kids have a blast out there!
