St. Clair county.....Sewage problems?

Postby joseph94266 » Thu Oct 31, 2013 5:08 pm

I am hunting in and around ofallon/lebanon/mascoutah, and I have heard many of the old timers say the ducks in the area are no good because they like to go sit in the sewage treatment lagoon on the backroads.... The old timers usually arent wrong, but I have to believe my first year shooting ducks isnt gonna be ruined by sewage... that would really be depressing. Anyone have any info/advice?

I hunt with a guy that has been hunting a sewer lagoon for ducks for the past 40 years and he is still alive. And kills a ton if ducks off it

Every duck at some time in its life has swam in a poop lagoon. I've had awesome hunts on a poop lagoon.

So I hear several of you talking about good harvests from lagoons and the meat is apparently safe. Is that because the birds are migratory? That's my suspicion.

some are more migratory than others. you could shoot locally raised birds too.

typically, because food particles pass so quickly through birds, bad stuff doesn't accumulate in their tissue. guys kill golf course geese, and I'd be more afraid of those pesticides than a little turd or two

Yup something like 90% of ducks/waterfowl have fed in a sewage pond. Just do it and wash your waders off :grooving: :grooving:
Give a man a duck... Feed him for a day... Teach him to fowl hunt... Feed him for a lifetime...Teach him in your spot... Learn to hunt a different spot....

The ducks like those lagoons because few people hunt them.

I wouldn't hunt on the lagoon, but I'd hunt a field near it. Every couple of years up in Canada, we hunt near a treatment lagoon. Had some great shoots.
